Causes of Acne
Acne is the result of clogged skin pores. This usually happens when the body is producing abnormally large amounts of oil to keep the skin from drying out. During this oil production, the body is not able to shed the skin cells properly. Dead skin cells to get stuck inside of pores. The result is an irritated, clogged pore. Acne can also be caused when Propionibacterium acnes, a natural skin bacteria, gets into a clogged pore. P. acnes bacteria will produce inflammation of the pore resulting in an acne cyst or nodule.

How long before my acne goes away?
There is no magic bullet with acne, as getting rid of it is a process. Be skeptical of anyone who tells you that they can fix your acne immediately. While there are options, such as extraction, these options are generally only for very specific, acute cases. Consult your dermatologist if you have questions.
Should I get a facial or chemical peel to help reduce acne?
Facials, Hydrafacials and chemical peels can be used to augment treatment. However, these same procedures may aggravate acne. We recommend that you talk to your dermatologist to determine if facials or chemical peels are an appropriate option for you.
How often do I need to visit the dermatologist for acne treatment?
Follow up appointments with the dermatologist vary according to each person’s response to the acne treatment plan. Return visits to your dermatologist will be necessary to monitor treatment, and to make any medical or regimen adjustments.
How do I avoid acne scarring?
